A hugely prominent German business empire, Siemens was founded in 1847 and was very active in many sectors of the engineering and technology industry. Following generally unpopular involvement in the Nazi war machine, the business headquarters were moved to Bavaria, and in 1950 Siemens began to manufacture washing machines, amongst its many other products.
In 1967, Siemens entered into a joint venture with Bosch in domestic appliance manufacturing, and in 2014, Bosch bought the 50% share held by Siemens. The BSH group continues to market its top of the range appliances under the brand name of Siemens. Other BSH group brand names commonly known in the UK include Neff, which sits in between the Bosch and Siemens brands in pricing, and Gaggenau.
